Data Archiving and Networked Services (KNAW - DANS)
The Netherlands
DANS is the Dutch national centre of expertise and repository for research data. We help researchers make their data available for reuse. This allows researchers to use the data for new research and makes published research verifiable and reproducible. With more than 300,000 datasets and a staff of 60, DANS is one of the leading repositories in Europe. DANS is an Institute under the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) and the Dutch Research Council (NWO). DANS is an EOSC member, has wide participation in funded projects (e.g. coordinator of the EU-funded projects FAIRsFAIR and FAIR-IMPACT), and participates in national, european and international communities and networks (e.g. RDA, CoreTrustSeal, CESSDA, OpenAIRE).
Role in the project
In the context of the OSTrails project, KNAW-DANS (DANS) leads activities on the FAIR assessment interoperability framework (Subtask 1.2.3) and on Enhancing “assessment” with “guidance” (Task 3.4). Furthermore, DANS participates in the project activities re: FAIR assessment platforms alignment [Assess] (Task 2.3), FAIR assessment metric services - Harmonizing legacy tools and services (Task 3.1), Thematic Pilots (T4.3) and Liaison Office (Task 5.4). The role of DANS is dual: domain-agnostic across all DANS Dataverse instances and domain-specific (SSH) on a use-case level. Furthermore, DANS fosters collaboration with relevant projects, e.g. FAIR-IMPACT (coordinator), FAIRCORE4EOSC, PATTERN, EOSC Beyond, etc.
