The Technical University of Madrid or sometimes called Polytechnic University of Madrid (Spanish: Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, UPM) is a public university, located in Madrid, Spain. It was founded in 1971 as the result of merging different Technical Schools of Engineering and Architecture, originating mainly in the 18th century. Over 35,000 students attend classes during the year.

According to the annual university ranking conducted by El Mundo, the Technical University of Madrid ranks as the top technical university in Spain,[5] and second overall. The majority of its Engineering Schools are consistently ranked as leading academic institutions in Spain in their fields, and among the very best in Europe.[6]

Role in the project

UPM contributes to defining the needs of existing services and developing strategies to meet them, along with the FAIR assessment interoperability framework (WP1). UPM serves as the supervisor for FAIR assessment platforms alignment and supporting services and resources alignment (WP2). Furthermore, UPM leads WP3 focused on assessment tools and services, is involved in the National Pilots for Spain (WP4), supports the development of training commons and an integrated competence center, and contributes to activities related to the Liaison Office (WP5). Additionally, UPM provides support in technical management, ensures quality assurance, and participates in governance activities to secure the sustainability of the project's outcomes beyond its conclusion (WP6).
