Scope
OSTrails Pilots
The OSTrails Pilots comprise 24 initiatives across different countries, disciplines, and types of institutions. They assess frameworks at scale and within real research environments. Through their activities, they promote the use of machine-actionable Data Management Plans (DMPs), enhance the FAIRness of digital objects stored in their repositories, and strengthen interoperability among Research Data Management (RDM) services.
Highlights
16 monthly coordination meetings with all 24 pilots (15 national + 8 thematic + HE) ensuring cross-pilot synergies for knowledge transfer on CRIS/repos integration, funder templates, vocabulary alignment; 6 common pilot use cases identified; documentation of which OSTrails PTA tools, incl >50 local services, each pilot deploys; comprehensive methodology and implementation plans developed for all pilots defining objectives, timelines, and success metrics.
Demonstrates end-to-end Plan-Track-Assess pathway for the HE pilot connecting IFs to operational use cases via 16 national funders’ evidence (maDMP templates-maDMP evaluation criteria-maDMP AP extensions) and 5 focus group meetings with all pilots; validated DMP Evaluation Framework with 7 core dimensions; defined the first maDMP extensions with 2 new entities (related identifiers, policies) & 24 new properties for DMPs, datasets and their distribution; delivered EC recommendations for FP10 design which informed the policy briefing on structured maDMP evaluation and interoperability (WP6).
National pilots engaged local stakeholders via webinars/workshops and initiated DMP templates and platform configurations for maDMPs connecting to their local policies and ongoing developments; Thematic pilots provided input to WP3 domain-specific FAIRness metrics and SKG-IF domain extensions.
